Come explore Montenegro’s rugged and undiscovered landscape with us as we hike, raft, swim, trail run, snorkel, and race in a half-Ironman distance triathlon. This is our most adventurous trip yet!
Each day of our jam packed itinerary will feature an opportunity for you to get to know this small and rugged Western Balkan country by feeling the ground crunch beneath your feet, breathing the clean and crisp air as you run and hike, and hearing the rush of the rivers and feeling the cool water as you paddle, swim, and snorkel.

We’ll taste Montenegro’s unique cuisine blending Balkans and Mediterranean flavors and enjoy indigenous wines cultivated by local families for generations.

Let’s Get to Know Montenegro the Only Way We Know How

The best way to experience Montenegro is by getting intimately familiar with the rivers, land, lakes, and mountain trails that criss-cross this undiscovered landscape. We’ll get out there and get our hands dirty rafting the Tara River - one of the last pristine and untouched rivers in the region, swimming in Skadar Lake - the largest fresh water lake in Europe, trail running along Skadar Lake, and hiking Durmitor National Park, which boasts the deepest canyons in Europe.

TRIP DETAILS

A Triathlon Where the Sea Meets the Mountains

What would our trips be without an amazing race in an off-the-beaten path location? We’ll race in Ocean Lava Montenegro, a half-Ironman distance triathlon based in Kotor. We’ll swim .92 miles through calm Kotor Bay, bike 56 miles around the coastline, and run 13.1 fast and flat miles past several UNESCO World Heritage sites. This will be a race to remember in an unforgettable place. Not sure you’re up for the full race? Consider a relay with friends or shoot us a note and we’ll help you arrange a team.

A Culinary and Wine Soaked Expedition with a Splash of History

We will explore the history and culture of Montenegro by visiting the mausoleum of its most famous leader, Petar Petrović-Njegoš. We’ll hike to his famous resting place and also visit Lovcen, the dark mountain from which Montenegro, Crna Gora (Black Mountain), derives its name. We’ll enjoy al fresco meals accompanied by indigenous wines grown for centuries by local families.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Our Montenegro adventure will take us to three distant geographic regions in this small Western Balkans country and we will stay in accommodations befitting each location.  At Skadar Lake, we will stay in bungalows - in Durmitor National Park, we'll have cozy cabins.  And in Kotor, we'll stay in apartments overlooking Kotor Bay, just minutes from the old town and the triathlon transition zone.
